Dogs will become sexually mature around 6 months of age and we advise that castration can be done from this age.
Castration is the removal of both testes under a general anaesthetic. Generally this will calm the dog so there is often less sexual behaviour, less urine marking and less aggression.
The biggest social benefit for neutering dogs is population control. There are large numbers of unwanted dogs in animal shelters and neutering is a very important tool in reducing these numbers.
